Under the name Matte Wood, James Jano produces a subtle brand of midtempo electronic music that unfolds across a series of looped vocal samples and percussion oddities. The project easily resonates with listeners of all genres while expressing a mastered technique of his experimental territory. 

James was raised in Detroit playing drums and piano in area Jazz groups. Later, he moved to New York to study composition and graphic design. He remains in NY, currently drumming for Widowspeak and developing his solo material from his home in Brooklyn.
