Dear Diary,
I broke my own rule. I swore I'd never write another love song, and then I went and wrote four of them and one cover.
I'm calling it Canciones De Amor, and it might be the most honest thing I've ever made. But this time I had to let people in to get there. Five collaborations, new friends and old ones, voices and hands that aren't mine woven into something I couldn't have built alone. For someone who knows solitude a little too well, who has spent more hours than I can count lost inside my own head, that was no small thing.
The five tracks each hold a different moment: lust, longing, anguish, obsession, awareness. The sound shifts from one to the next, and yet they all live under the same canopy. Love, in all its inconvenient forms.
I've been quietly building something for over a decade. Amparo in 2016, my roots and Latin culture threaded through with Japanese soft synths and acoustic warmth, a world entirely its own. Then Envejeciendo in 2019, stretching into the aging warm glow of '80s soviet electronics and city pop. Last year, Naturaleza, slow and lush and alive with the kind of stillness that only comes from stepping outside yourself and touching some dirt. I've always moved between languages, moods, and sonic worlds. Always observing, always searching, never quite where anyone expects me to be. Or at least I hope that’s how it came across. You tell me, diary.
This EP feels like a release in every sense. One moment sparse and close, the next lush and a little disorienting. Sweetness, but also ache. Desire, and then its aftermath.
Breaking that promise turned out to be the most freeing thing I could have done. Canciones De Amor doesn't romanticize love so much as sit inside it, unflinching. I want to thank the following collaborators: Joey Postiglione, Jennifer Medina, Sam O.B. Michael Beharie, Max Peterson and Jack Tatum. <3
